Latest News

We are OPEN

Emag is officially re-opened after closing due to COVID-19.

We’re still in the Spondon Village Hall every fortnight on Fridays. Doors open from 6pm, shows start from 7pm.

Please Mind the Scaffolding

So this site is in major need of an overhaul, and I’ll be taking it to bits in the coming months.
We are still active regardless of what our news feed may suggest, it’s just most of our announcements (when they do happen) are now on Facebook.

The end result of the website overhaul should be a cleaner site that actually scales for mobiles. (In fact it’ll be a re-skinned version of the theme our friends at NAMSOC use)

Two new series – Initial D: First Stage and Bakuman

With Stelvia long finished and One Punch Man nearing it’s end, both slots are seeing new shows in the next month. Due to them tieing for the place in slot 1, we have decided to show two 2-season shows.

Today we start the eurobeat racing anime Initial D: First Stage.

Synopsis from Anime News Network:

High school student Takumi Fujiwara works as a gas station attendant during the day and a delivery boy for his father’s tofu shop during late nights. Little does he know that his precise driving skills and his father’s modified Toyota Sprinter AE86 Trueno make him the best amateur road racer on Mt. Akina’s highway. Because of this, racing groups from all over the Gunma prefecture issue challenges to Takumi to see if he really has what it takes to be a road legend.

Initial D: First Stage will last for 26 episodes in Slot 1 with English Audio.

Next meet after the finale of One Punch Man, we will be starting a slice of life series about writing Manga, by the writers of Death Note: Bakuman

Synopsis from Anime News Network:

Moritaka Mashiro, a junior high school student, content to live out a relatively normal life as any other does, is persuaded by his classmate, Akito Takagi, to become an aspiring mangaka when the latter realizes his natural talent as an artist. However, Moritaka is reluctant to pursue his dream as his uncle, once a mangaka with his own serializations, died from overwork trying to regain his lost status. With Akito’s help, Takagi gets another classmate and his school crush, Azuki Miho, who is an aspiring voice actress, to voice in the anime adaptation of their future manga once it is completed. However, Mashiro also proposes to Azuki, who surprisingly accepts only on the condition she will marry him when both of them have achieved their dreams. With a goal set before him, Mashiro begins a long and struggling path to become a famous mangaka.

Bakuman will last for 25 episodes in Slot 2,  in Japanese audio with English subtitles.

New year, New series, New server

So 2015 brings new series to EMAG.

As of the 16th Jan we start the two series that were voted in during December. We elected to delay their start until the new year due to the holidays.

Our longer series is Star Driver: Kagayaki no Takuto (TL: Star Driver: Takuto of the Radiance) in Japanese with English subtitles.

The shorter series is Hataraku Maou-sama! (TL: The Devil Is a Part-Timer!) in the English dub.

The new year has also marked a change for the website, because as of now it has changed hosts. However, you’ll probably notice no difference, as it doesn’t mean it’ll be updated any more often.

New series shortlist

Last meet we watched a movie, “King of Thorns”, as we had a totally clear schedule for the meet. We then whittled down the rather large list of shows we’d shown since Cannan ended.

For slot 1, our longer series, we have reduced the list to:

  • Katanagatari
  • Star Driver: Kagayaki no Takuto
  • Ga Rei Zero

For slot 2, our shorter series, the shortlist is:

  • The Devil is a Part-Timer (JP: Hataraku Maou-sama!)
  • Tokyo Magnitude 8.0

The shows will be voted on during our next meet on the 5th December. You must attend he meet to have your say!

Totally Random

Right now we have no set series, as Trigun ended during our last meet.

We will be opening series 1 up for random longer shows (2-season or 26 eps max) to short-list them

As for Series 2 we’ll be whittling down the short-list next meet and launching an online discussion on our Facebook page to decide what we’ll be watching in the shorter series slot in upcoming meets.

New shows

We’ve started some new shows in the club recently

Our new show in slot 1 is Trigun, lasting 26 episodes.

Our new show in slot 2 is Cannan, a 13 episode series.

Our interlude is still Ground Defence Force Mao-Chan when we have time

Again late post as I’m away but at least it got there in the end

Moving to Spondon

As of next meet E-mag will be moving from Artcore to Spondon Village Hall.

We are sorry about the sudden announcement, we’ve tried to stay at Artcore for as long as possible as it was a good venue which met our needs well but due to reduced membership over the past few months causing us to repeatedly dip into our reserves to pay for the room we needed to move outside of the city center to become more sustainable.

The Village hall is just in front of the bus stop in the center or town and you can get to it from Derby Bus Station with the Spondon Flyer, the IIlkeston Flyer and the Y3.

For drivers there is parking space behind the hall.

Food wise we have access to kitchen facilities in the town hall, a Co-op next to it, a couple of takeaways on the same street and a street full of takeaways roughly a 10 minute walk away.

Pub-wise for after the meet we go to “The Malt Shovel” about a 5 minute walk away.

Please find bus timetables and the address of the village hall at the bottom of this post and if you have any questions please feel free to ask them and I shall answer them.
